This was my first Upstate NY elopement and I LOVED IT! So relaxed and simple. But it was definitely a lesson in asking questions…
So elopements happen in the courthouse so I was picturing an old beautiful courtroom. This was not so. Oh so far from it. Picture a room, with a counter, and a bright blue wall and that’s where they perform the ceremonies. The blue wall had a tulle awning taped to it to look “wedding-y” and I wanted to cry. This was not good. So I looked around and in the hallway was an interesting wall sculpture. I asked the ladies in the office if we could have the ceremony in the hallway instead. They said yes, and then added, that they were willing to go to the library next door for the ceremony as well. A library didn’t seem ideal but anything was better than the blue wall. There was hope!
I have always been someone with really high expectations and they are usually not met. Therefore it’s hard to impress me. I wish this wasn’t the case but it is. So when I walked in the library I was expecting books and a kids room and not much to work with but ANYTHING would be better than the blue wall. I was amazed at what we found. It was like an old museum, a library with marble and dark wood and a stained glass ceiling. It was the jackpot of libraries. This was going to be good.
As you’ll see below this was a fun couple and we turned the gloomy, rainy day into something romantic and beautiful. Enjoy!
